Deep Cleaning a Forklift
It may be difficult at first glance to understand why keeping your forklift clean is so important. They’re vehicles made for work rather than leisure, and they’re not exposed to as much dirt as some other work vehicles like excavators and bulldozers. However, there are still plenty of opportunities for your forklift to get dirty, and all that grime can cause serious long-term damage if left unchecked for too long. That’s why Melton Machinery & Material Handling has created this guide to forklift cleaning.
Exterior Cleaning
The first step is to clean the forklift’s exterior. This is normally as simple as using a broom, a brush, or a pressure washer to remove any dirt or debris, and should present no challenge unless there is serious grime buildup. Besides helping prevent premature deterioration, cleaning the exterior also makes it easier to check the condition of the forklift. Before moving on to cleaning the interior, take a moment to inspect the vehicle for any signs of rust or serious damage.
Interior Cleaning
The best way to clean a forklift’s interior is to vacuum up any dirt or debris and wipe down all surfaces with a damp cloth. As you clean, make sure that you are being thorough, with particular attention paid to the seats, floor, and dashboard. Parts of the forklift that are frequently touched, like the controls and seating, should be sanitized to help prevent the spread of disease.
